I/Gear® notification services

The Problem

is built on the principal of “improved communication results in improved productivity”. Communication must be complete, accurate, and delivered to the right people at the right time for production to be optimized.

I/Gear Notification Services is a manufacturing solution that sends real-time and scheduled messages from the plant floor to mobile phones, pagers, email servers, and other communication systems.
An unplanned event such as equipment malfunction, quality issue, or material shortage, coupled with poor communication increases the cost of manufacturing.
Common communication practices that erode profitability include:
  • Delayed awareness of down assets.
  • Operators not quickly escalating alarms to supervisors and maintenance personnel.
  • Hiring personnel for manual tasks such as data entry and monitoring of asset status.
  • Not providing management with proactive real-time notification of new orders, outages, and periodic production levels.

The Solution

I/Gear Notification Services leverages comprehensive device connectivity to monitor multiple assets on the plant floor in real time, enabling messages, reports, and events to be distributed to any communication system. With I/Gear Notification Services:
  • Problems are addressed faster, saving time and reducing cost.
  • Personnel resources are minimized with automated asset monitoring, message delivery, and production reporting.
  • Notification is escalated upward and outward if problems are not addressed in a timely fashion.
  • Proactive reports can be delivered to management indicating production levels, new orders, order status, inventory levels, etc.
Notification Services

Before I/Gear Notification Services:

Issues or alarms would arise, at which point line-side staff would either attempt to resolve the issues themselves or attempt to locate appropriate resources to resolve the problem, causing delays. Larger issues and trends would ultimately be communicated to management either too late or not at all, creating significant impact on equipment efficiencies and performance.

After I/Gear notification services:

Issues, Alarms and Scheduled Information Requests are discovered and attended to in real time, automatically. Key personnel are notified and are able to respond more quickly and efficiently. Negative trends in the manufacturing process are discovered and the appropriate staff notified before resulting in a serious effect on the process. Overall, equipment efficiencies are no longer affected by problems going unnoticed or unresolved.

Product Features

I/Gear Notification Services is comprised of four main components: Subscription Management (Web Deployed) – Data Collection – Notification Generation – Notification Delivery.

I/Gear Notification Services is installed on a single Windows based computer within the production facility and connected to the manufacturing process via network connection. This will allow the system to monitor and react to situations as they arise without the need for any intervention. Initially the Subscription Management component is used to set-up subscribers, escalation parameters, subscription type, data collection and data providers. The system then monitors and reacts to any/all of the configured events that it has been set-up to monitor by initiating the appropriate response in terms of annunciation, paging, emailing, etc. If a problem is not resolved within the appropriate time period, escalation is implemented to notify the next set of users/groups configured within the subscription management component.

Technology interfaces supported by I/Gear Notification Services include PLCs, databases, Web Services, XML documents, .Net assemblies, TCP devices, weight scales, barcode scanners, email servers, proprietary systems such as Lincoln welders, Vorne LED displays, Atlas Copco torque controllers, IBM Websphere MQ, Cognex Insight vision systems, and many other serial, Ethernet, OLEDB, ODBC and OPC compliant devices and systems.
